How to Set Up Your AxeDash Bitaxe Monitor!

How to Set Up Your AxeDash Bitaxe Monitor

Get your AxeDash today and start monitoring your home miners!

AxeDash is a small touchscreen display that shows live stats for every Bitaxe miner on your home network, plus the Bitcoin price and network difficulty. Setup takes about 3 minutes and has two parts: connect AxeDash to your WiFi, then add your miners.

What you need

  • Your AxeDash display and a USB-C power supply
  • Your home WiFi name and password. AxeDash connects on 2.4 GHz only, the same band your Bitaxe uses.
  • A phone or computer to run the setup page
  • Your Bitaxe miners, powered on and connected to the same WiFi network

Part 1: Connect AxeDash to your WiFi

When AxeDash has no WiFi saved, it creates its own temporary network so you can set it up from your phone.

Step 1: Power on AxeDash

Plug AxeDash into the USB power supply. The screen shows the AxeDash logo and version, then switches to the AxeDash Setup screen.

This screen shows the name of the setup network (it looks like AxeDash-A1B2), the address 192.168.4.1, and a QR code labeled Scan to join.

Step 2: Join the AxeDash network

  1. On your phone or computer, open the WiFi settings.
  2. Select the network named AxeDash-XXXX, where XXXX matches the name on the AxeDash screen.
  3. There is no password. You can also point your phone's camera at the QR code on the screen to join automatically.

Your phone may warn that this network has no internet. That is normal. Stay connected.

Step 3: Open the setup page

The setup page should open by itself within a few seconds. If it does not, open a web browser and go to:

http://192.168.4.1

Step 4: Choose your home WiFi

  1. The drop-down menu lists the WiFi networks AxeDash can see. Select your home network. If yours is missing, wait a few seconds for the scan to finish.
  2. Enter your WiFi password. This is case sensitive, so make sure to type it correctly. This is the most common mistake in the setup process.
  3. If you already know your miners' IP addresses, you can add them on this page too. If not, skip it and add them in Part 2.
  4. Choose your time zone so the clock on the dashboard is correct.
  5. Select Save & Restart.

Step 5: Wait for AxeDash to connect

AxeDash restarts and shows Connecting to followed by your network name. When it joins, the dashboard appears.

If the password was wrong, the screen shows Couldn't join "your network" - check the password. Join the AxeDash network again and re-enter it.

Step 6: Reconnect your phone

After the restart, the AxeDash network disappears. Switch your phone or computer back to your home WiFi before continuing.

Part 2: Add your Bitaxe miners

Until you add a miner, the dashboard shows No miners yet and the address to add them at.

Step 1: Open the AxeDash web page

On a phone or computer connected to the same home WiFi, open a browser and go to:

http://axedash.local

If that does not load, use the IP address shown on the AxeDash screen instead, for example http://192.168.1.50. Some Android phones and older Windows computers cannot open .local addresses, so the IP address is the reliable option.

The Web Interface screen on AxeDash shows both addresses, the WiFi network it is on, and a Scan to open QR code.

Step 2 (Optional): Find your miners' IP addresses

You need an IP address for each Bitaxe, such as 192.168.1.42. Any of these will show it:

  • The miner's own screen
  • Your router's list of connected devices (look for the miner's hostname, such as bitaxe)
  • The Bitaxe web page, if you already use it

Step 3: Add each miner

  1. On the web page, press the Find miners on my network button to scan for miners.
  2. Scanning finds Bitaxe miners on your network automatically. Click Add next to the miners you want to monitor on the AxeDash. If a miner does not appear, add it manually by typing its IP address.
  3. Repeat for each miner.
  4. To remove a miner, delete it from the same list.

AxeDash starts polling each miner right away. Within a few seconds the dashboard fills in.

Adding a miner later

Bought another Bitaxe? Power it on, connect it to your WiFi, then repeat Steps 2 and 3. AxeDash does not need to be restarted.

Part 3: Reading your dashboard

The main screen adds up every miner on your network and shows the clock, date, and Bitcoin market data.

Settings and updates

Change settings

Open http://axedash.local (or the IP address on the AxeDash screen) from any device on your home WiFi. From there you can add or remove miners, change the time zone, and adjust display options such as brightness, 12 or 24-hour clock, and the temperature unit.

Update the firmware

AxeDash can check for updates and install them from the web page. When one is available, the AxeDash screen shows Update to v followed by the new version number.

  1. Open the AxeDash web page and choose Check for update.
  2. If one is available, choose Install.
  3. The screen shows AxeDash Update with a progress percentage. Do not unplug AxeDash. It restarts when done.

If you update from a downloaded file instead, use the file named axedash-x.y.z.bin. Do not use the file with "factory" in its name; AxeDash rejects it with the message That file is not an AxeDash update.
